sports bras

One of the challenges of being a fuller figured woman is finding a sports bra that works well for you. The Fiona is Moving Comfort's most popular bra, and for good reason. It works.

Moving Comfort Womens Fiona Bra Moving Comfort Womens Fiona Bra
List Price: $44.00
Average Rating:

Moving Comfort's most popular sports bra, the Fiona features seam-free molded cups with one-way stretch powermesh that encapsulates the breasts for support and limits up and down movement. This means that you can maintain the shape of your bust, while still receiving the high level of support and movement control that you expect from a sports bra...

This Moving Comfort sports bra has an amazing 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5 on Amazon out of 66 reviews. It gives fantastic support and minimizes movement while providing serious wicking of moisture away from the body. It comes in sizes from 32 B up to 40 DD.

One of the things that is so impressive about Moving Comfort's entire line is how well the clothes fit a woman's body. This is because the company was founded by women for women over 30 years ago, when there were no workout clothes for women. In all of that time, the company has been dedicated to producing clothing that fits the way women move, while delivering the best that new technology in fabrics has to offer.

While the Fiona is the most popular atletic bra in the Moving Comfort line, it is not the only one. Here are some others to consider.

As you can see these are also top rated bras from Moving Comfort. This is one company to consider when it comes to a good quality sports bra.

If you are a woman that does any type of sports activities at all then you know how crucial it is to find quality athletic bras, especially if you are well endowed.  There are many good quality athletic sports bra styles that are available today and a lot of what you choose should depend on your bust size and also what type of clothing that you want to wear with this bra. Whether you are petite or looking for a ddd sports bra that works, I have some great recommendations for you.

A great athletic sports bra to consider is this model by CW-X

CW-X Women's Xtra Support Zip Bra CW-X Women's Xtra Support Zip Bra
List Price: $65.00
Average Rating:

Extra support doesnít have to mean extra sports bras. Engineered for larger cup sizes (up to 40DD), the Xtra Support Bra combines extra motion control from the reinforced 5-point Targeted Support System with the convenience of a full zip frontal closure system...

This piece of athletic apparel is a front zip bra (much easier to put on than a hook and eye closure) that greatly reduces bounce.  It runs a little small, so it is recommended that you go one band size up in this bra.  This bra also features advanced wicking fabric so that you stay dry.  With this style I would definitely wear a shirt over it, because it is not really good looking enough to wear on its own, but for comfort and support it is a winner.

If you are looking for athletic bras that can be worn on their own without an extra top, you may want to consider sport bra tops.  Much of the time these are styled less like bras, and more like cropped sports shirts.   Here is a good pick for a fuller figure.

It comes in several fashion colors and looks nice enough to be worn alone at the gym or while jogging.

Here is a good pick for women with smaller chests.

Sexy Microfiber Single Strap Sports Bra Top - W/ Stretchable Lycra (Large, Beige) Sexy Microfiber Single Strap Sports Bra Top - W/ Stretchable Lycra (Large, Beige)
Average Rating:

At less than 1.0 denier, Microfibers are finer than luxury natural fibers such as silk, yet strong and uniform. The close packing of the fine filaments of Microfiber are able to lock out water without chemical treatments or coatings, yet allow passage of moisture vapor, leaving the wearer dry and comfortable...

This is a really cute bra, but is not for high impact workouts.  If you are running you will want something more supportive in your sports bras, but it is a great bra for A and B cups for walking or for yoga, and it looks great on its own or under tanks.  This style does however run big, so be sure to keep that in mind when ordering and order a size down.

Speaking of yoga, did you know that you can actually get a specific yoga sports bra?   Here is a good example.

Enell sports bra Enell sports bra
List Price: $64.00
Average Rating:

Women with a larger bust size can now exercise in comfort thanks to Enell's design know how. The front-fastening Enell sports bra is designed to minimise bounce, while the fabric holds moisture away from the body and has finished seams to prevent rubbing.

I love the amazing support and the tight fit.  If you are doing yoga, you don't want your clothes to get in the way, so this is a great bra for yoga (my personal favorite exercise).

A good athletic sports bra is probably one of the most important pieces of clothing in any women's sportswear collection, because it will not only make you more comfortable when you are exercising, but it will also protect your figure.  Athletic bras are definitely worth the investment.

When you are working out, you want to eliminate "bounce" as much as possible.  This isn't too difficult if you are a size A or B, but once you get past a C cup bra size, getting the stabilization that you need in a sports bra can be challenging. You really need to select from sports bras for large breasts. There are many that are designed specifically for your needs.

Here is how to choose a good sports bra that will work for you.

Most sports bras for smaller figured women work on the compression method.  They basically squoosh your chest flat.  This works, but when you take that style into a D, DDD, or even F it doesn't work so well any more.

For a larger cup size, I prefer the divide and conquer type of sports bras.  These are the types of bras that hold each breast still individually.  As an added benefit they also look better on and give you a way better shape.

Another big difference in sports bras for fuller figured women is that they come in real bra sizes.  If it doesn't don't buy it, it won't work as well.

Here is my favorite sports bra for a fuller figure (with real customer reviews):

I ordered this bra based on the positive reviews of several women. I am a 38-40C, distance runner and gym rat. I LOVE this bra!!! It has the support and comfort that I have been looking for. I have always bought Champion bras but this is by far my favorite. I can't wait to try it during my next half marathon in March!!!

I've used this bra for several years. They are well constructed for the price point and I find them well supportive for high impact activities. Because I am bigger now after having kids ( went from a 36C to 38C/D), I find a little bit of a "uniboob" problem than before kids.

This is the best sports bra that I own. If you are like me, with large boobies, then this is a great buy! It was hard for me to find a sports bra for larger size breasts that didn't smash you and cut off your circulation. I use this bra for all of my physical activites and I don't feel ashamed or embarassed while out excersizing. I do not have to wear a 2nd bra and I don't have my DD's bouncing back and trying to knock me out (cuz they are real).

I usually use the really cute looking Nike sports bras that come in all different colors but I'm on a deployment and I didn't want to bring those with me. I ordered these because they looked basic and they weren't too expensive and they had good reviews. I LOVE THEM! I'm a runner and I wear a C/D cup and these bras are awesome. They give you so much support without smashing your boobs to your chest or creating the "uni-boob" that you get from most sports bras. I ran a few miles to test it out and had pretty much no bounce, the bra did exactly what you want a sports bra to do. I highly recommend these!

I am a 36 DD, and have a very hard time finding sports bras that actually work. No pull over the head ones for me. I am a horseback rider and 5 day a week runner, and play tennis and soccer, so I need a bra that will hold everything in place, no bouncing down the street. I had found this bra years ago in the mall and loved it, I bought 5. They lasted years with heavy wear. I had trouble finding them again however, as the stores in the mall no longer carried them. I tried a few other bras in the meantime, but none of them could compare to this one. Even my old worn out champion bras were better than any new ones I tried. I was so happy to find them online, and at half the price! For big busted women who want as little movement as possible, this is the only bra for you! I will never buy another type.

I'm a busty woman myself, and I love to work out (Turbo Jam, anyone?). But stabilizing my chest during high intensity workouts can be challenging to say the least. So I started my quest to find the perfect support in a DDD sports bra. Here is what I found.

There are two types of sports bras on the market right now. One is the compression type, which you can find anywhere. This is the type of sports bra that most women wear. They are cheap and they work, but only if you are a C cup or smaller. I've worn this type of bra myself and I have found that while it helps, it does not stabilize my chest as much as I'd like it too.

That is where the other type of sports bra comes in. This is one that uses the "divide and conquer" method. Unfortunately these are more expensive, but in my experience they work way better for larger busted women (D & up). They keep your breasts still like other sports bras can't.

Here is an example of this type of sports bra.

This bra works fantastic for my workout needs. I run, and my breasts don't bounce. I also do high intensity aerobic classes (like boxing and boot camp) and still have the stability I need! As I lose weight, I will buy another one in a smaller size! I am in love!

This bra is wonderful for about the first 10-15 minutes I'm wearing it (I mean NO BOUNCE WHATSOEVER), but then the fabric starts to stretch out and that leads to too little support. If you work out for longer than 10-15 minutes, you will lose support and by the end of your workout it will be no better than a $10 sports bra you can buy at Target. In addition, the support for activities in which I raise my arms (like jumping jacks) is just not there. It's fine for a couple of minutes, but then the fabric stretches and by 5 minutes in, jumping jacks are no longer an option. In addition, I like to air dry my bras to increase their lifespan, but with this bra, if I don't dry it in the drier it doesn't really snap back into place, which again leads to too little support. I'm afraid this is going to lead to a pretty short life for this bra. If you're planning to go for a 10-15 minute run and then dry this bra in the drier every time wash it, then you will be pleased with it. However, if you work out for longer than that or do jumping jacks or like to air dry your bras, you may want to look elsewhere. As other reviewers mentioned the bra is awkward to get on. You have to slip it over your head like many other sports bras, but then once you get it on you also have to hook it closed in the back (like a regular bra). It's pretty awkward for me to put it on then reach behind me to hook it. Luckily I usually work out with a partner, so I can get that person to hook it for me. It's not that I can't do it myself, it is possible. It's just that it's very awkward and time consuming to try to do it myself. I did not have sizing issues like many other reviewers. I wear a 36D/DD and it ran true to size for me. It is tighter than other sports bras I have, but not uncomfortable. It is tightest under my arms. In my opinion, this bra was not worth the cost. For $50+ I expected a bra that would support me throughout my entire 60 minute workout. In addition, I expected a bra that I could easily put on by myself. Also, for those interested in where items are made, this company is based in the UK, but the bra is made in China. My true ranking would be 2.5 stars, but as that's not an option, I'm rounding up to 3, because at least I get 10-15 minutes of decent support.

This bra stood up to 6 hours a week of being tossed around a judo mat, and repeated washer and dryer cycles. The only mild discomfort from this bra was from the hook and eye closure and bra rings and buckles in back: they can poke if you land hard on them, but they've never come undone no matter how badly I was losing at judo. As with all clothing, size is critical, and this product scales up to large sizes without sacrificing performance. If you're big and don't want to be bouncy, this is the bra for you.

This is the best running bra that I have ever used!!! I usually wear a 38/40 DDD and I ordered the 40F...it fits perfectly..It attaches in the back and fits snug (which is how a running bra should fit). The material is very sturdy and doesn't cut into the skin anywhere. I will definitely be getting more of these.

If you are looking for a non-jiggle bra look no further. I have even taken up running since buying this bra, it is that solid. My only comment is to be aware that it runs a little small in the band width. I take a 32E but it is definitively a lot tighter than my normal bras.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This type of sports bra will divide your breasts and hold them still separately. The best of these always comes in real sizes (38 DDD) and not small, medium, and large. This will give you the best support.

Another thing that you will want to pay attention to is style. A lot of women like to exercise in just their sports bras without a shirt, so style is important. The bra above by shock absorber is a great bra for that, but there are others that look like regular bras and those you need to wear a shirt over. The choice is really up to you.  Just be sure that no matter what type of weight training equipment you are using or what type of exercise you are doing you get a good supportive bra.

You can get great support in a DDD sports bra and nearly eliminate bounce!

The main difference between a regular bra and a sports bra is construction and function. Sports bras are meant to control bounce while exercising while regular bras are meant to shape, separate, and uplift.

Regular bras typically have two distinct cups and often have underwire and decorative elements such as lace. My favorite type of bra in a regular bra are push up T-shirt bras. These bras give great support and shape, and they don't show under clothing (if they fit correctly). Here is an example of a bra like this.

I agree. it is a great push up bra. and its true u got to make sure u order one size bigger cause it is a little tight. n make sure u order the right cup size cause if u r in between cup sizes order the smaller one, or it will no fit u right

This is a great push-up bra. It adds a little more shape but it looks very natural. It is also invisible under delicate T-shirts. One thing, I found mine a little tight when I wear it for a longer period of time. You might want to order one size bigger. Otherwise a wonderful bra.

This product exceeded expectaions. it fits well and does wonders for the way my tops look.

I love this bra! I tried straying away from this brand to try a bra from Fredericks of Hollywood, what a mistake that was! Maidenform Dream bra is so comfortable and the cup size is perfect. It gives support without feeling stiff plus it's very undetectable under shirts. Super plus in my book!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see by the pictures and the reviews this bra is constructed completely to make your breasts look good. There is nothing wrong with that, in fact this is the type of bra that I usually wear everyday, but this kind of bra will not give you the support you need for playing sports and exercising.

Sports bras work in two ways. The first is what I call the compression or "squoosh" them way, and the second is the "divide and conquer" method.

Here is an example of a compression sports bra (perfect for smaller bustlines).

I call these my "bra-dickies" because I wear them in place of camisoles under low cut sweaters and shirts for the layered look without the bulk. They have a smooth seam line that doesn't give away that it's a bra, not a tank. I would not recommend these for any sort of exercise if you have any amount of breast tissue because there is absolutely no support. I'm a 34D and sometimes have to layer a regular bra underneath to prevent everyday bounce because the fabric is so stretchy. Stairs are rough enough, I couldn't imagine attempting to run in it!

Not only do they pass for sports bras, but I use these as under shirts for layering with low-cut v-necks--much for comfortable than wearing a full shirt. Plus, a great deal for someone on a budget.

I am a fairly average-sized woman (36 C) and these bras are a dream come true for me. I use them in place of camisoles under low-cut tops, even for work! I bought a 38 so it wouldn't flatten me and because of complaints from other reviewers about the straps digging into their skin. I love them so much that I bought a second pack! They are comfortable, supportive, and look good under my clothing. The price is right too! Highly recommended!!

I bought these bras specifically to sleep in, not exercise in, and they're perfect. I'm a 32D and wanted something with light support when I was puttering around the house or sleeping. The cotton is soft and provides enough support for sleeping, but they definitely will not be enough support for any significant exercise. I tried the 32's but ended up exchanging them for the 34's because I needed more coverage. I would recommend going up a size than normal if you have a larger cup size.

The appearance of this item wasn't quite what I expected when I unpacked it. The material is considerably thinner than other sports bras I've purchased in the past. There is no 'band' around the lower edge of the bra like the photo suggests. Also, the girl in the picture must be REALLY perky on her own; this bra is not likely to create the cleavage shown in the photo :) That said, I am very satisfied with this item. It is comfortable; I have not experienced any chafing or rubbing. Under a standard-weight white t-shirt it didn't show any bra lines, and the straps do not cut into my shoulders. I recommend this item for small- to moderately-busted women who do not need much support. It is best suited for use in low impact sports like hiking or bicycling.

Reviews

This bra is SO comfortable. I have never had a supportive sports bra that was comfortable before. I picked it up at a local store, and the ladies there were very helpful helping me find the right size. I wear these every day when working out, and they are absolutely wonderful.

This "Lunaire Coolmax Sports bra" is actually a good bra as far as support and a nice smooth fit, and is also pretty effective at keeping the moisture(sweat) under control.Hence my two star rating instead of one. But I will never get to use it again as the underwires are torturous! At 57 I am not new to underwires,I've been making use of them for a few decades now, and I have never been so uncomfortable unless the bra was getting really old and thin from so many washings to the point where the underwire started poking through the seam. This bra's underwire started digging into me right from the start. I know the size was okay, as I mentioned the fit was perfect(in both cup and width). It was already washed and worn, so I didn't return it and because of the price I didn't want to throw it away. So I put it away and tried it again on one of those days where everything else was in the laundry. Same thing - although it did get me to do my laundry immediately, as I couldn't stand being in the darn thing for more then an hour. I see mixed reactions to this bra from the reviews - but for me it was just a torture chamber and it's not something I would recommend. The best sport bras I have found that have the same features are by Champion(with or without underwire). Even the ones that don't have underwires are quite supportive even in larger sizes and absorb sweat nicely as well. And they are very comfortable too. Have a great workout and Happy Shopping.....Laurie

Bouncing breasts are unattractive and painful. If you know exactly what I'm talking about, then this bra is a bra you should try. It offers the same no-bounce strength of traditional sports bras without the unflattering uniboob feature. I've worn this bra for high-impact activities and am very happy with it. It does sit higher (look at picture), so if you normally wear low-cut tops when you're working out, look at other options. I haven't experienced the issues that other reviewers have...in fact, I'm not even aware of this bra when I'm working out...a testament to product fit and performance.

This bra is really great. I feel comfy and confident when I'm at the gym. It's very true to size and wicks away the sweat like no other! If you're tired of the saggy uni-boob formed by those other sports bras, order this one!

I ordered this bra in July 2007. I am 36DD and at the time I purchased this bra, was running 8-10 miles a day. The bra lasted through three runs and four hand washing/air dryings. The underwires poked thru and I had to throw the bra away. It was not good quality and didn't keep the bounce to a minimum when I did wear it. I would not buy this bra again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see from the customer reviews these sports bras are all about fit and keeping your breasts under control at all times. It is nice to find a sports bra that also looks good, but the number one thing that you should look for is bounce control, because if you bounce too much then you will injure the tissue around your breasts which causes premature sag.

The bottom line? Get sports bras for sports and exercise and regular bras for shaping and lift. You won't go wrong.
